Facts About Port Coquitlam
Port Coquitlam was first incorporated as a municipality on March 7, 1913. Port Coquitlam was originally developed mostly as farmland. As Vancouver expanded, the North-West and South-West areas were developed into residential housing. There are still many farms in the area, including many blueberry farms! This is also an excellent place to pick up locally grown and organic farm produce, plants and shrubbery. Horse-back riding lessons are readily available in this area. The actual "Port" is located along the Pitt River, which connects to the Fraser River and the Pacific Ocean. Port Coquitlam is also home to Terry Fox, a famous athlete and cancer treatment activist.
Neighbourhoods
The North Side of Coquitlam backs on to Eagle Mountain and Burke Mountain, with a number of trail heads, rivers and lakes. To the west, Coquitlam neighbours Port Moody and the villages of Belcarra and Anmore. To the East, Coquitlam neighbours Port Coquitlam and the Pitt River. To the south of Coquitlam you will find Hwy 1 and easy access to Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver.

Detached House Prices in Coquitlam Range from $750,000 to over $3,000,000 for acreage, with the average house being in and around $1,200,000. Townhouse Prices in Coquitlam range from $600,000 to $1,200,000 depending on size and age. Apartments in Port Coquitlam range in price from $300,000 for a small 1 bedroom starter condo to upwards of $2,000,000 for a luxury penthouse.
Schools
Public Schools in the Port Coquitlam areas fall under School District 43, which also encompasses Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. This area is also known as the "Tri-Cities". Public Schools in the area can be found on the website here SD43.There are a number of specialty programs offered within School District 43 such as Montessori, French Immersion, Mandarin Immersion, Reggio Emilia, and International International Baccalaureate.
Private or Independent Schools in the Tri-Cities area include Traditional Learning Academy, Children of Integrity Learning Academy, Royal Bridge High School, Archbishop Carney Secondary School, British Columbia Christian Academy, Victory Baptist Academy, Our Lady of Fatima School, Queen of All Saints School, and Our Lady of Assumption School.

Post Secondary Schools in the Port Coquitlam area, or the Tri-Cities area include Douglas College. Port Coquitlam is also an easy commute to British Columbia Institute of Technology(BCIT) in Burnaby and Simon Fraser University (SFU) in North Burnaby. Many people also commute via bus to the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver and Capilano College in North Vancouver from this area.
Parks & Recreation
Some of the best recreation to participate in within the Port Coquitlam and Tri-Cities area include the numerous parks, such as Sasamat Lake in Belcarra, Buntzen Lake in Anmore, Swimming or Lazy-River in the Coquitlam River, biking along the Traboulay Trail, Mountain Biking on Eagle Mountain, or Burke Mountain, Back Country Camping In Burke Mountain-Pinecone Provincial Park. Coqutilam is also very much so geared towards young families and has some of the most interesting playground equipment around in Town Centre Park, Mundy Park, Como Lake Park, Blue Mountain Park, Queenston Park, Rochester Adventure Park, Victoria Park, Rotary Childrens Playground, Lions Park, Gates Park, Rocky Point Park, Crestwood Park, Norm Staff Park, as well as a number of well-maintained elementary school playgrounds with well-maintained grassy fields. Minnekhada Park and the Pitt River are also key points of interest.

Port Coquitlam has endless shopping, Not only is Port Coquitlam a short distance from the Coquitlam Centre mall it has its own malls including:
Dominion Triangle/Fremont Village: Fremont Village is the towns newest shopping centre with a large variety of retails services, car dealerships, offices, banks and large shopping centres including Walmart, Costco, Canadian Tire and many more.
Downtown Port Coquitlam: The heart of the tow. This is where you will find the independent and locally owned stores which include many antique and vintage shops. as well as City Hall and the Provincial Courthouse are all located in downtown Port Coquitlam.
Poco Place Mall: This mall offers a large selection of retail and personal services including a dry cleaner, hairdresser and salon, medical, dental and professional offices. Major chain stores include Micheals, Pier One Imports and many more
Prairie Mall: located on the north side of Port Coq. Includes shopping such as Save-on-foods, dry cleaners, hair salons, restaurants, a pet store and many more.
Shaugnessy Station Mall: Also located in downtown Port Coq. Shop with Safeway, Van-city H&R block, Westminster savings and many more.
Westwood Centre: includes a variety of retail stores including a BC liquor store, Financial offices, business services (travel agency, insurance companies), personal services and many more.
Restaurants, Cafes and Bars
Port Coq. Is known for being a very diverse town so the restaurant, cafe and bar selection is indefinite. You can comfortably find sushi, pizza, donair and more near your home. Bigger restaurants include Earls Poco, Pallas Athena Greek, Orrange Kitchen and Bar and many more!
