Facts About Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge was initially Incorporated as a municipality in 1874 making it one of the older communities in the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley Area. With its combination of access to Mountains, Lakes, The Fraser River, convenient shops, services, schools, as well as transportation efforts such as the Golden Ears Bridge and the West Coast Express, Maple Ridge has seen an incredible boom in population over the past 10 years. Maple Ridge currently has a population of approximately 90,000 people and is growing by approximately  2.1% per year.  The City of Maple Ridge is busy expanding the housing supply with new condos, townhouses and detached houses, making it an increasingly popular place for both Millennials and Retirees. 

Neighbourhoods

The neighbourhoods in Maple Ridge consist of the following: Albion/Kanaka, Port Hammond, Port Haney, Ruskin, Silver Valley, Thornhill, Town Centre, Webster’s Corners, Whonnock and Yennadon. When first entering Maple Ridge you are welcomed by the Town with all the vibrant shops, services, entertainment and recreational activities. To the west of the town is the Golden Ears Bridge towards Langley and Surrey. To the east of Maple Ridge you will find all the lakes, beaches, hiking trails and provincial parks including Golden Ears Park and Alouette Lake.

Detached homes in Maple Ridge start at $629,000 to over $5000,000 with the average house being in and around $900,000. Townhouse prices range from $400,000 to $1,150,000 depending on size and age. Maple Ridge apartments range from $260,000 for a 1 bedroom starter to about $1,000,000 for a larger apartment or penthouse.

Schools

Public schools which include elementary and secondary schools in Maple Ridge fall under school district 42 which also accompanies Pitt Meadows. There are a number of specialty programs offered within School District 42 such as Montessori, French Immersion, Self-paced schools, Cyber School, odyssey k-9, connex and reconnex programs, trades programs and International Baccalaureate.

You can quickly get to the skytrain to access the other universities and colleges in the lower mainland including BCIT, SFU or UBC with the R3 to Coquitlam skytrain station.

Maple Ridge is known for its recreational parks, trails and beaches. People travel from throughout all of BC to come enjoy these leisures. Maple Ridge is known for their boutique shops, antique shops and more. The shopping districts in the town include: 

224 Street: Offers many boutique shops and services including a tea and whimsical gift shop, a candle shop, jewellery stores, art stores, home decor and many more.

Dewdney Shopping Corridor: Has many unique shops as well, this is where you will find most of the health and wellness services and fitness centres.

West Lougheed Shopping Corridor: The west corridor includes two shopping centres, Westridge and Westgate with around 70 shops and services between both locations. West Lougheed is where you will find most of the vehicle services, vehicle rentals, home improvement, renovations and garden stores.

Town Centre Lougheed Shopping Corridor: This is the home to most of the towns insurance and financial institutions. This shopping corridor has two indoor shopping centres, Haney Place Mall and Valley Fair Mall filled with boutique stores and larger chain stores such as Purdy's chocolate and London Drugs.
