East Vancouver is divided from Vancouver's "West Side" by Ontario Street. Known for its diversity, East Vancouver has traditionally been the more affordable side of town. In recent years however, it’s become more sought after by home buyers for its lifestyle and proximity to downtown. In 2007, the typical housing price of a single-detached house in East Vancouver was $627,758 (a 9% increase over the previous year and a 90% increase over the previous five years).

East Vancouver is made up of these sub-areas: Grandview-Woodland, Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington-Cedar Cottage, Killarney, Renfrew-Collingwood, Strathcona and Victoria-Fraserview. 

Perhaps the “heart” of East Vancouver, as most residents would say, is Trout Lake. An urban lake where residents go to walk their dogs or enjoy an outdoor stroll or concert. 

Commercial Drive and surroundings is a cultural hub. Expression of the arts including East Van’s famous murals and live music scene.”East Van” is also home to some of the highest concentrations of craft breweries in North America.
